A very cheap way to decorate your house is to use wainscoting panels. Beautiful pieces of wood can transform a boring room in to a very fancy one. Every time you want something new in your house or when you move in a new one, you should think at wainscot paneling. The main property of the wainscoting panels is that they are giving you the sensation of a bigger space.
Decorative paneling mounted in the lower part of the walls, also known as wainscoting panels, are usually found in conference rooms, upscale houses, business offices, chair rail ideas and sometimes in commercial areas. They add architectural interest to naked walls.
A tough thing in choosing the right decorative paneling is the material from which the panels are made of. Usually they are made from wood, different types of wood, but recently they started to be built from PVC, because it’s durable and long lasting. The panels can be painted. When choosing the materials you must think also that it is sensitive to watermarks and scratches and the lifetime of the wainscoted panels can be reduced by these factors. Vinyl materials are very durable but they fit if you have a bigger budget. Wainscoting panels made from vinyl are designated to spaces like kitchens and bathrooms because they don’t absorb water and are more durable.
Installing Wainscoting Panels
It is always important to decide how to install wainscoting. They split the wall in two different parts and you must take care of the ratio between those parts. Usually wainscoting panels are installed in that way that you obtain a ratio of 1 to 1, meaning they start exactly from the middle of the walls.
Preparations To Make Before Installing Wainscoting Panels
Before starting to install wainscoting you have to do some preparations inside the house.
- You must move the electrical outlets in a new position so they will not fall on the flat face of the panels.
- You must cover the floor area around the walls you will work at because you will probably do some mess there and especially if you will paint the parts on their position.
- At the end of your work, you must fill the nail holes and joints with a paintable caulk. By doing this, you will have a flat surface and the holes will be covered perfectly.
- Take care when you will move back the furniture not to hit the panels because you will have to start over again with the dust and repairing.
